The Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia presents The Art of Jewish Food: Food, Film and Flory! Saturday, January 31, 7:30pm

Celebrating local musical icon Flory Jagoda with a screening of the new documentary "Flory's Flame" and a special guest appearance by Flory!

Food is more than just sustenance. It’s a reflection of a community’s history, culture and values. Jewish food is a diverse cuisine that has evolved over many centuries, shaped by Jewish dietary laws (kashrut) and the economics, agriculture, and culinary traditions of the many countries where Jewish communities have existed. The J celebrates Jewish food and culture at “The Art of Jewish Food.”

It’s the opening night of the first “The Art of Jewish Food.” This evening celebrates local musical icon Flory Jagoda with a screening of the new documentary “Flory’s Flame,” and a special guest appearance by Flory herself! Plus a tasting of Sephardic cuisine.

Flory Jagoda’s perfect, trilling voice invokes the soulful musical Altarac family heritage stretching back to pre-Inquisition Spain. “Flory’s Flame” interweaves the life story of this 90-year old legendary Sephardic National Heritage Fellow musician raised in Bosnia and Croatia with her September 2013 Celebration Concert at the US Library of Congress.
