Man Arrested For Spitting At, Kicking Fairfax City Officers
City of Fairfax Police charged a man with three counts of felony assault on a law enforcement officer on Tuesday.
FAIRFAX CITY, VA — City of Fairfax Police charged a man on three felony counts of assault on law enforcement after he spit at and kicked officers Tuesday afternoon as they were trying to arrest him, according to the daily crime report.
Police responded around 11:22 a.m. to the Safeway grocery store located at 10350 Willard Way for the report of a larceny. A Safeway employee told the officers a man had left the store without paying for some items he took with him. After determining the same man had previously trespassed on the property, police obtained a larceny and trespassing warrant against him.
The man returned to the Safeway at 3:34 p.m. and stole more items, according to the report. Police in the area stopped the man and attempted to arrest him. Police say the man tried to head butt an officer and started to actively resist arrest, spitting at and kicking the officers. The man kicked one of the officers in the stomach and another in the leg and groin, according to the report. No injuries were reported.

Police took Jacob Don Coates, 22, of no fixed address, to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged him with three felony counts of assault on law enforcement and one count of petit larceny. Police also served Coats with the outstanding petit larceny and trespassing charges related to the incident that occurred earlier in the day. He is currently being held without bond.
