Updated: Fairfax Man Arrested After Barricading Himself In Car

A Fairfax man in police custody is facing multiple charges after he barricaded himself in his car on Fairfax County Parkway.

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Fairfax County Police took a 41-year-old Fairfax man into custody shortly before 4 a.m., on Monday, after he had barricaded himself inside a vehicle on Fairfax County Parkway at Lee Highway, according to a police blog post.

Shortly before midnight, an officer instituted a traffic stop after observing a man, whom they identified as Donald Collins, driving a 2010 Ford F-150 over the speed limit. After smelling the odor of an alcoholic beverage, the officer noticed Collins exhibiting signs of impairment.

When the officer ordered Collins to exit the vehicle, he refused. The officer then informed him he was under arrest.

Fairfax County Police closed sections of the roadway after Collins indicated that he might be armed. Tactical officers responded to the scene. After more than two hours of negations, police took Collins safely into custody.

Police charged Collins with driving while intoxicated, refusal of DWI testing, and obstruction of justice.
