Minor Name Change Proposed For Providence District Polling Place
Fairfax County Board of Supervisors is considering a proposal to rename the polling place that serves two Providence District precincts.

FAIRFAX, VA — Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will be hosting a public hearing Tuesday to consider renaming and changing the locations of a handful of polling places and precincts in the county, including one polling place in the Providence District.
In December, the Virginia Supreme Court approved redrawn state legislative and congressional districts that will be in effect for the Nov. 8 general election.
Those redrawn districts created split precincts in Fairfax County. Per Virginia law, precincts must be entirely in a magisterial district, state senate district, delegate district and congressional district.

In March, the Board of Supervisors approved a proposal to split the Mosby precinct into two new precincts, Mosby #1 and Mosby #2. Both precincts are located in the Providence District north of the City of Fairfax and south of I-66. They share a polling place at Mosaic Elementary School, which is located at 9819 Five Oaks Road.
Mosaic Elementary had previously been named Mosby Woods Elementary, after the nearby neighborhood in Fairfax City. In February 2021, the Fairfax County School Board voted to change the name of the school to Mosaic Elementary to remove any association with the Confederacy.

The proposal the Board of Supervisors will be considering on Tuesday will be to officially rename the polling place Mosaic Elementary School. Currently, both precincts voting there will continued to be named Mosby, according to Providence District Supervisor Dalia Palchik's office.
If approved, the minor change would go into effect on June 22, which would allow the county enough time to notify voters of the changes before the November election.
Members of the public can provide feedback on the proposal in-person or by phone during Tuesday's public hearing, which is scheduled for 4 p.m., at the Fairfax County Government Center. To sign up to speak during the meeting by phone, call 703-324-3151, TTY 711 to get started.
