Mobile History Museum Visits Wakefield Elementary School

An 18-wheeler museum rolled up to a Fairfax elementary school from Richmond so that students could learn more about the Civil War.

FAIRFAX CITY, VA -- A mobile museum featuring the history of the Civil War rolled up to Wakefield Elementary School Thursday morning in Fairfax.

The 18-wheeler museum drove up to Fairfax from Richmond so that students from the school could learn more about the Civil War. The visit to the school was arranged by Wakefield Elementary School teacher Anita Schuh, who teaches 6th grade.

The Civil War 150 HistoryMobile is an interactive "museum on wheels" housed in a 53’ expandable tractor-trailer. The HistoryMobile visits museums, parks, fairs, schools, and other sites throughout Virginia and beyond, and is scheduled to tour through March 2016.

The HistoryMobile draws together stories from all over Virginia and uses state-of-the-art technology and immersive exhibit spaces to present individual stories of the Civil War from the perspectives of those who experienced it—young and old, enslaved and free, soldiers and civilians.

The Civil War 150 HistoryMobile may be available for tour stops, with applications accepted on a rolling basis.
