New Coronavirus Cases, Hospitalizations Trending Up In Virginia
An additional 1,366 coronavirus cases were reported by Virginia officials Thursday, bringing the seven-day average of new cases to 1,288.
VIRGINIA — An additional 1,366 coronavirus cases were reported by the Virginia Department of Health on Thursday, bringing the seven-day average of new cases to 1,288.
The seven-day case average had been increasing for over a week, but the new average is down from 1,324 on Tuesday. A month ago on Oct. 4, the average was 818 cases. The seven-day average of daily cases per 100,000 people on Thursday is 15.1, compared to 10.0 daily cases per 100,000 people on Oct. 5.
By region, new cases on Thursday include 398 in the southwest region (417.9 seven-day average), 304 in the northern region (304.1 seven-day average), 268 in the central region (198.4 seven-day average), 229 in the northwest region (172.6 seven-day average) and 167 in the eastern region (195.4 seven-day average).

The statewide seven-day positive average is 5.8 percent as of Nov. 1, and 2,719,206 PCR tests have been completed to date, an increase of 18,441 from Wednesday. The latest seven-day average for the northern region is 5.8 percent, an increase from 5.6 percent on Wednesday. Other regional averages are 9.3 percent in the southwest region, 5.2 percent in the central region, 4.8 percent in the eastern region, and 3.8 percent in the northwest region.
Current statewide hospitalizations of COVID-19 patients stand at 1,064. The seven-day average of hospitalized COVID-19 patients in Virginia is 1,037.9. A month ago on Oct. 5, the seven-day average of hospitalizations was 911.0

The current number of hospitalizations includes 294 patients in the southwest region (seven-day average of 285.7), 250 in the northern region (seven-day average of 240.9), 212 in the central region (seven-day average of 202.0), 179 in the eastern region (seven-day average of 182.3), and 129 in the northwest region (seven-day average of 127.0).
The 1,064 statewide hospitalizations include 104 patients on ventilators and 240 in the intensive care units, according to the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association. As of Thursday, ventilator use among all hospital patients stands at 28 percent, and ICU occupancy is at 81 percent occupancy. No hospitals are reporting difficulty obtaining personal protective equipment or other medical supplies in the next 72 hours.

- Fairfax County: 24,726 cases, 2,314 hospitalizations, 605 deaths; increase of 135 cases, 14 hospitalizations and one death
- Fairfax City: 165 cases, 15 hospitalizations, eight deaths; increase of one hospitalization
- Falls Church: 78 cases, 13 hospitalizations, seven deaths; no changes
- Loudoun County: 8,175 cases, 495 hospitalizations, 133 deaths; increase of 32 cases, two hospitalizations and one death
- Manassas: 2,073 cases, 132 hospitalizations, 27 deaths; increase of four cases
- Manassas Park: 664 cases, 58 hospitalizations, eight deaths; increase of two cases
- Prince William County: 14,923 cases, 1,023 hospitalizations, 223 deaths; increase of 90 cases and four hospitalizations
- Fredericksburg: 609 cases, 53 hospitalizations, six deaths; increase of two cases
- Spotsylvania County: 2,566 cases, 157 hospitalizations, 55 deaths; increase of 25 cases
- Stafford County: 2,538 cases, 173 hospitalizations, 21 deaths; increase of 34 cases and one death removed
