After Testing Positive For COVID-19, Congressman Gerry Connolly Says He Will Self-Isolate

WASHINGTON, DC — U.S. Rep. Gerry Connolly (D) tested positive on Friday for COVID-19, according to a post on the congressman's official Twitter account.

"This morning, I tested positive for covid," Connolly said, in the tweet. "I am mildly symptomatic and will be self-isolating. Fortunately, I’m vaxxed and boosted. This pandemic isn’t over yet so if you haven’t gotten your booster yet please do."

The 71-year-old Democrat represents Virginia's 11th congressional district, which covers parts of Fairfax County, all of Fairfax City and a portion of Prince William County.

Connolly was first elected to Congress in November 2008. He is currently a member of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform and chairs its Subcommittee on Government Operations. He's also a member of the Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Job Creation and Regulatory Affairs. A member of House Committee on Foreign Affairs, he also serves on its Subcommittee on the Middle East and South Asian and Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific.

A resident of the Mantua neighborhood in Fairfax County, Connolly was chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors from 2003 to 2010, previously representing the Providence District on that board.
