Man Electrocuted While Trimming Trees Near Fairfax Later Dies: Update

FAIRFAX, VA — A man trimming tree branches near George Mason University Friday morning was electrocuted and later died from his injuries, according to a Fairfax County Police Department Twitter post. Detectives are now investigating the circumstances behind the man's death.

Units from Fairfax County Fire & Rescue removed the victim from a tree Friday morning in the 4600 block of Luxberry Drive. When rescue personnel arrived around 8:31 a.m., they found the man suspended by a rope about 25 feet up, according to a post on the department's official Twitter account.

Once the man was freed and brought to the ground, he was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries, but he was later pronounced dead.

Police have not released the victim's man.

A person found hanging from a tree Friday morning in the 4600 block of Luxberry Drive was helped down by Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.
