Police: Alexandria Man Struck Vehicle After Trying To Elude Officer

He faces reckless driving, other charges, say Fairfax County police.

An Alexandria man is facing reckless driving and other charges after trying to speed away Monday night from a Fairfax County squad car and hitting another car.

After a police pursuit on local roads, Cortez Settles, 25, was taken into custody and charged with felony speed to elude, reckless driving and driving on a suspended driver’s license, according to a county police report.

The incident began at about 8:17 p.m. at the Fairfax County Parkway and Burke Centre Parkway, the police said. An officer tried to pull over a car driven by Settles for a speeding infraction, but he disregarded the officer’s signal to stop. The vehicle driven by Settles then sped off and hit another car at a stop light.
