Police Association Starts Campaign For Family Of Fairfax Officer

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — The City Of Fairfax Police Association is organizing a GoFundMe campaign to help the family of Sergeant George Moskowitz, who died unexpectedly on New Year's Eve. Moskowitz, who suffered a medical emergency while on duty, had worked the past eight years with the City of Fairfax Police Department after working with the Fairfax County Police Department for 25 years.

"In an effort to assist Sgt. Moskowitz's family during this difficult time, the City of Fairfax Police Association has set up this page to help them," the GoFundMe page states. "Please feel free to donate to this cause or leave some kind words."

The GoFundMe page lists Sergeant Matthew Lasowitz, who serves as the public information officer for the city's police department and is a member of the Fairfax City Police Association, as the organizer of the campaign.

"The outpouring of support and condolences has been amazing and comforting. We welcome anyone that wishes to show support or offer personal condolences to stop by our station at 3730 Old Lee Hwy," the campaign page says. "A cruiser has been placed in his honor out front."

Fairfax City's mayor and city council issued a statement Wednesday night, expressing their deep sadness on the death of Moskowitz. "Sgt. Moskowitz's passing is a great loss to the city, and our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, his daughters, and his son," Mayor David Meyer and the city council said in a statement Wednesday night.

To honor Moskowitz, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units gathered at bridges over Interstate 66 as his body was escorted from the hospital, the department said Thursday in a tweet.

The City of Fairfax Police Association serves as a fraternal organization for the city's police officers, providing a wide range of support to its members and assisting the community through events and charitable outreach.
