FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Units from the Fairfax City Fire Department responded around 11 a.m. on Monday to a townhouse in the 3800 block of Bradwater Street for a medical emergency.
Once emergency personnel arrived at the townhouse, they discovered an unidentified hazardous substance and summoned hazmat crews to the scene, according to Lt. Matt Lasowitz, of the Fairfax City Police Department's administrative services division. "Whatever it is, is contained to the residence. There's no cause for public concern at this moment."

Police spokeswoman Sgt. Lisa Gardner confirmed that a male subject who was brought out from the home was taken to the hospital, where he is in stable condition. She added that it was unclear whether he was a resident or guest.
Police cordoned off the area around the townhome, but neighbors were still able to access their homes. But by 12:15 p.m., hazmat crews had departed and only a handful of police officers remained on the scene, waiting for inspectors to clear the home.
