This year’s race on Saturday, August 1, will again feature a fun-run for kids, a visit from McGruff the Crime Dog, lots of public safety vehicles for the kids to explore, and community activities such as child fingerprinting. Registered runners and bystanders will also watch public safety responders compete against each other in the Public Safety Challenge! This challenge pits Fairfax County’s first responders from the police department, the fire department and the sheriff’s office against each other in a race for bragging rights and the coveted Public Safety Challenge trophy!
“The race and the events around it have become part of the Fairfax County community.” said Crime Solvers Chairman, Jody Donaldson, who first conceived of the race and continues to organize it every year with the help of Capital Area Runners. “We’re thrilled to bring in Investigation Discovery this year to help spread the word about the efforts of Crime Solvers and the public working together to fight crime, keeping our communities safe and helping us support our public safety members.”

Registration is now open at CrimeSolvers5k.com and if runners sign up early, they pay the early-bird rate of $25. Over the past two years the race has raised more than $11,000 for Fairfax County Crime Solvers. These funds are essential for the program to pay out anonymous cash rewards for tips that lead to an arrest, as well as to promote the program to the public. The Fairfax County Crime Solvers Board of Directors serve in a volunteer-capacity.
