Upcoming Community Listening and Learning Sessions (login details will be shared soon)

  • February 11: Dr. Karen L. Cox, professor of history at the University of North Carolina, presents “The Lost Cause and Confederate Monuments and Memory” at 7 p.m. Facilitated discussion will follow her presentation.
  • February 25: Brent Tarter, historian and author and editor of the Library of Virginia’s Discovering Virginia Biography, presents “The 1902 Virginia Constitution: White Supremacy and Disenfranchisement” at 7 p.m.

In addition to the listening sessions, Fairfax City launched an online tool to gather comments, personal stories, ideas, and questions – all of which can be submitted anonymously. Residents are encouraged to take this opportunity to weigh in on how the city’s nomenclature – street and place names and historical monuments and markers – is perceived by residents, customers, and visitors. All ideas, opinions, and suggestions are welcome.
