Scooter Discounts Available For GMU Students Via New City Program
A new Ride and Economic Development Authority program offers discounted rates to George Mason students traveling within Fairfax City limits.
FAIRFAX CITY, VA — George Mason University students can now take a scooter ride to and from the City of Fairfax at a discounted rate thanks to a new program from Bird and the city's Economic Development Authority.
If Mason students hop on a Bird scooter, their first ride of 30 minutes or less will be free and they'll receive a 25 percent discount on their next 10 rides.
In order to take advantage of these discounted rates, members of the Mason community will need to be first-time riders on Bird, use their @gmu.edu email address and start or stop their ride within city limits.

The city launched its dockless shared mobility program in 2019 to increase transportation options, according to Chloe Ritter, multimodal transportation planner of Fairfax City’s Public Works Department.
“We are excited that Bird and the Economic Development Authority are helping introduce new and returning students this fall to e-scooters," she said. "Old Town Fairfax is a quick ride from campus, and e-scooters are a great way for the Mason community to explore all Fairfax City has to offer.”
