Sexual Battery Charge Filed Against Former Inova Fair Oaks Caretaker

A long-term care patient at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital said he was sexually assaulted by a hospital caretaker in April.

FAIR OAKS, VA — A 21-year-old Falls Church man was arrested after a long-term care patient at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital told a hospital technician that his previous caretaker had sexually assaulted him in April, according to a police release.

The victim, who requires around the clock care due to his medical condition, reported on July 7 that his previous caretaker had fondled his genitalia on two occasions, according to police.

Fairfax County Police detectives identified Hektor Fernando Alvarez, who was employed at the time by Metropolitan Healthcare Services, as the victim's previous hospital caretaker. Alvarez, who no longer works for MHS, was employed as a patient sitter at the hospital, according to police.

Following a month-long-investigation, police arrested Alvarez on Tuesday and charged him with aggravated sexual battery with a victim through mental incapacity or helplessness. After being held without bond, Alvarez was later released on a secured bond, according to police.

Alvarez had previously worked as a medical technician at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington County. He his no longer an employee there, according to a VHC spokesman.

Although no incidents at this location have been reported, police are asking anyone with information about this case or who believes they may have had inappropriate contact with Alvarez to call the Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800, option 3.
