Snow Storm: 1,155 Calls to State Police in Four Hours
Hundreds of crashes and disabled vehicles, according to Virginia State Police. Motorists encouraged to stay off roadways until later Friday.

State Police fielded hundreds of calls for crashes and disabled vehicles in just a four-hour period on Thursday.
There were 1,155 calls for service statewide between noon and 4 p.m. — when much of the snow began falling across Virginia.

There were 491 traffic crashes and 222 disabled vehicles. The majority of crashes only involved damage to vehicles, according to the Virginia State Police.
In the VSP’s Culpeper district, which includes Fredericksburg, there were 63 crashes and 52 disabled vehicles.

In the Fairfax district, which includes most of northern Virginia, there were 37 crashes and 51 disabled vehicles.
Motorists were advised to stay off the highways until later Friday as the wet roads were expected to freeze overnight.

If having to travel, drivers are reminded to do drive to save lives:
- Clear off all snow from your vehicle – windows, roof, trunk and lights
- Add extra time to reach travel destination
- Slow speed for road conditions
- Increase driving distances between vehicles for increased stopping distance
- Buckle up and don’t drive distracted
- MOVE OVER for all stopped emergency vehicles, highway vehicles and two trucks.
