Suspicious Package In GMU Parking Lot Identified; No Threat To Public

FAIRFAX, VA — The suspicious package reported in a parking lot at George George Mason University's Fairfax campus that sparked an investigation Tuesday afternoon turned out to be a discarded item of trash, according to a release from the university.

A few minutes before 12 noon on Tuesday, the GMU Parking Twitter account reported that emergency personnel were investigating a suspicious package in Lot A near Patriot Circle.

Shortly before 1 p.m., the university's Office 0f Strategic Information distributed a notice via email saying that the investigation had concluded. Technicians identified the item as a discard piece of trash.
