Tim Kaine would do his best not to roll his eyes and instead dutifully focus -- sometimes in deadpan fashion -- on the wildly diverse litany of speakers lining up to question the Richmond City Council about this or that.

This was in the early 1990s, when Kaine was Richmond's mayor, and one could delightfully watch the frolicking proceedings on a local cable station called BLAB TV.

The guy has come a long way since then.

As the Washington Post reported Wednesday, Kaine is among the finalists for the Democratic post. On Wednesday, he joined fellow Virginia senator and fellow former Virginia governor Mark Warner at a Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce roundtable discussion.

But the larger discussion is whether Kaine will be the VP pick, ostensibly giving Clinton a leg up on a purple state that twice has been in President Barack Obama's camp.

Other contenders reportedly include Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and Labor Secretary Thomas Perez.

The announcement is expected this weekend in Florida, if not sooner.
