Twins Ace Hardware Opens New Fairfax City Shop With Celebrity Appearances

New Fairfax City hardware store opens with appearances by former Redskin great Doc Walker and state senator Chap Petersen.

Twin brothers Jeff and Craig Smith celebrated the grand opening of their new Twins Ace Hardware store Saturday with two days chocked full of local celebrity appearances, freebies and more.

“My brother and I worked at a similar store in Montgomery County for a number of years,” said Craig, who is co-owner of the independently owned Twins Ace Hardware. “We were looking all over the metro area for our own hardware store to open and we thought Fairfax City was a great choice and we went with Ace because we thought they were great partners.”

All Ace Hardware stores are independently owned and operated. In 2010 JD Power and Associates ranked them the Highest In Customer Satisfaction Among Home Improvement Stores.

The morning of the grand opening they held a board-cutting ceremony to officially kick off the new store. Virginia State Senator Chap Petersen made an appearance.

“We had several councilmen and the senator cutting the board at the same time,” said Smith.  “We had seven saws going at the same time, so it was a little crazy but it turned out to be a lot of fun.”

Former Washington Redskins great and popular media personality Rick “Doc” Walker was also on hand to meet customers and sign autographs. A mutual friend put the Smiths in touch with Walker who toured the store on Friday and then agreed to be at the store for the grand opening.

“People loved seeing him, we were really happy to be able to get that,” said Smith.

In addition to the local celebrities and freebies, Twins also had deals on in-store items for opening day, and also featured a 50 percent off sale on items $50 or less for Sunday.

Residents were also encouraged to bring in samples of their soil for a free testing and recommendation for treatment from Jonathan Green Lawn Care on Sunday.

Coyote Grill, Main Street Bagel Deli and King Kabob were among the local eateries giving away free food for the grand opening. Shoppers also enjoyed free in-store massages throughout the day from local chiropractor The Taschler Center.

“Twins Ace Hardware wants to be a part of the Fairfax community,” said Smith.  “We’ve already gotten involved in a number of schools and fundraisers, we’re really happy to see the other independently owned restaurants in this shopping center come to help us today.”
