On Nov. 16, Fairfax City police officers and Police Chief Erin Schaible held a community meeting on crime trends and public safety.

At this meeting, they spoke about issues and observations by the public, as well as different trends observed by the police department.

"We want them to know what we're doing proactively in terms of fighting crime," Schaible said, "all of the things we're doing that they might not be aware of."

Schaible said the department is embracing technology and offering a plethora of programs for the public, including offering tools residents and business owners can use to keep themselves safe.

"We want to make sure they know their police department is engaged and problem-solving in their community," she said. "We are listening to their needs, and they can be assured we're taking appropriate action."

At the meeting, the police department gave a presentation on crime in Fairfax City, and attendees broke into small groups to hold discussions with police officers.
