FAIRFAX, VA — New surveillance video was released Wednesday of a nude suspect police said is linked to a series of early morning burglaries in the London Towne community in Centreville.

Major James Curry, commander of the Fairfax County Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division. shared the footage during a briefing at public safety headquarters, noting that a fifth incident occurred early Wednesday morning.

In the latest case, a community member on Palmerston Square Lane was alerted by his phone around 7 a.m. to video captured just after 5 a.m. The footage showed a naked Black male walking up to a sliding glass door and attempting to open it.

The new video has allowed detectives to refine the suspect's description.

While previous witness accounts estimated his height at 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches, crime scene analysis of the new footage suggests the man is likely between 6 feet 1 inch and 6 feet 3 inches tall. He was also seen with a piece of clothing wrapped around his head, obscuring part of his face.

The investigation began in early March following four reported incidents between March 5 and March 8:

  • March 5: A suspect entered a bedroom on Bodley Square at 5:15 a.m. while a resident was preparing for work.
  • March 6: Evidence of an attempted burglary was found on Leicester Court at 5:30 a.m..
  • March 7: A resident on Ealing Court was awakened at 4:30 a.m. by a dog barking and saw a fully nude man inside the home.
  • March 8: A resident on Paddington Lane heard footsteps at 3:30 a.m. and saw a naked man standing in a doorway.

Curry noted that while the suspect has not taken any property, the nature of the crimes is concerning. Detectives are working with sex crimes investigators to analyze commonalities with past cases and determine the individual’s intent or potential mental health needs.

"Our end goal is to make sure it does not exceed beyond what we've seen so far," Curry said.

Police have increased patrols and deployed drones and technical investigation units in the neighborhood. Authorities are urging residents to review their own surveillance footage and join "Connect Fairfax County," a program that allows the community to share video directly with detectives.
