SOUTH RIDING, VA—Paul Pack, principal of Liberty Elementary School in South Riding, recently picked up a pretty nifty accolade. Namely, he was chosen as the Washington Post's 2018 Principal of the Year.

He was chosen among 16 finalists from Virginia, Maryland and DC. According to the Post, they were chosen by the respective local school system, the DC Public Charter School Board or a panel of educators and community leaders with expertise in the private school community.

Pack, who's been at the school for six years, is among Loudoun County's foremost proponents of STEM: science, technology, engineering and math. He told the Post he encourages teachers to use the latest technology whenever possible.

"Some principals or leaders see [themselves] at the top, and I think they totally have it wrong," he said. "The principal works for the teachers and the teachers are serving the students. This building wasn’t built so I would have a job. It’s built so that kids can come to school."
