Wawa To Celebrate Opening In Fairfax City With Giveaways, Free Coffee

Wawa's 100th grocery and fuel store in Virginia has planned a number of festivities to mark its opening Thursday morning in Fairfax City.

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Wawa's new grocery and fuel station located at 9700 Fairfax Blvd. will officially open its doors at 8 a.m., on Thursday, according to a release.

Local officials will join Wawa mascot Wally Goose for a 9 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony. The company will also present a $30,000 grant from the Wawa Foundation to Special Olympics Virginia in support of the Law Enforcement Torch Run.

To honor first responders, Wawa will be hosting a Hoagies for Heroes hoagie-building contest on Thursday. Members of Fairfax City police and fire departments, a well as the George Mason University Police Department, will compete to see who can complete the most hoagies in 3 minute. At the end of the competition, Wawa will present $1,000 checks to each of the department's chosen charity.

As part of the opening day festivities, City of Fairfax Police are inviting members of the public to cover an entire cruiser with donations from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m, on Thursday. All proceeds will benefit Special Olympics Virginia.

In celebration of the opening of the company's 100th store in Virginia, Wawa will be handing out 100 "Goose Vibes Only" T-shirts featuring a 100th milestone logo on the sleeve to the first 100 customers who walk through the door on Thursday.

Starting on Thursday, Wawa will also be providing customers visiting the new Fairfax City store free coffee through Sept. 11. All other Wawa stores in Virginia will be providing free coffee on Thursday to celebrate the Fairfax City store's grand opening.

As of part of its grand opening, Wawa's 2022 Day Brighteners Tour will be celebrating Fairfax City customers, Wawa associates, and community-nominated local heroes.

This year, we’re excited to toast all the incredible Day Brighteners and kick off this one-of-a-kind tour with a stop at each new store to show our 'Goose Gratitude' to associates and customers whose little acts of kindness make a big difference in our communities.”

Hira Naimi is the general manager of the new Fairfax City Wawa, overseeing a team of approximately 50 associates, both full- and part-time.

The new store will offer all the Wawa amenities available at other locations, including a build-to-order food kitchen, where customers can order a hoagie of their choice. The store will also offer a section of hot, cold, iced and frozen beverages; bakery items; dairy products; and fuel services.
