Winter Weather News: Fairfax City Service, Program Status 12/16

The city is under a Winter Weather Advisory. Visit the National Weather Service website for the Washington-Baltimore area (weather.gov/lwx) for updates.

Here is current information about services and programs. Please check back for city service-related updates as the weather event progresses.

UPDATED: On December 16:

• City government offices open on time by appointment
• Connected Care is closed
• Curbside leaf collection is cancelled
• CUE Buses will run on a regular schedule
• Refuse and recycling will be collected as usual

Please call the Snow Desk at 703-385-2629 to report weather-related issues, including street conditions and downed limbs in public right-of-way during this weather event.

The city requests residents take the following actions:

• Please park vehicles OFF-STREET — in driveways and residential parking lots — to give crews quick and safe access to treat roadways.

• Please clear and treat sidewalks promptly for safe pedestrian access.

• When clearing driveways, pile snow off the street, to the left of the driveway (facing the driveway from the street). Consider waiting until after plows clear the road at your driveway, so you don't have to clear any of the plow's unintentional snow/ice spillage.

• Please clear snow from around nearby fire hydrants, providing emergency workers with a three-foot clearing around the hydrant.
