Flash Flood Watch Ahead for City of Falls Church
Watch issued Friday by the National Weather Service starts Saturday at 8 p.m. and continues until Sunday at 8 a.m.
The National Weather Service on Friday afternoon issued a Flash Flood Watch for the City of Falls Church that goes into effect from Saturday at 8 p.m. to Sunday at 8 a.m.
The Watch includes the surrounding region, including Arlington County, City of Alexandria, Fairfax County and the District of Columbia.
Showers and thunderstorms will increase in coverage from West to East late Saturday afternoon and continue into Sunday morning, according to the weather service. Some of the strong storms will contain torrential downpours, which could lead to flash flooding, the NWS warns.

Widespread rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches can be expected locally, with higher amounts possible, according to the weather service. Rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour could occur, with the strongest thunderstorms. Heavy rainfall in short periods of time may cause a rapid rise in creeks and streams as well as flash flooding in urban areas, the weather service said.
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation, the NWS warns.

The weather service suggests monitoring forecasts on Saturday and prepare to take action if a Flash Flood Warning is issued.
