2-Alarm Fire Injures Dog In Huntington: Fire Department

No people were injured in the kitchen fire Thursday, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

HUNTINGTON, VA — A dog was found unconscious amid a fire in a Huntington high-rise building Thursday, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

Units responded to the 15-story, high-rise apartment building in the 2000 block of Huntington Avenue around 8:59 a.m. Thursday. Moderate smoke conditions were found in one apartment, and a second alarm was requested. The fire on the stove top, which extended to the cabinets, was found and extinguished.

Other residents on the 15th floor smelled smoke, leading to a 911 call. Firefighters found the unconscious dog in the apartment and removed him for medics to treat. The dog was taken to a pet hospital and is recovering. No other residents were home when the fire occurred, and no firefighters were injured.

Investigators determined the cause of the fire was combustible materials on or near the stove top. One person was displaced and declined Red Cross assistance. Damages were estimated to be $77,500.
