The show centers around three boyhood friends, who struggle to find meaning in a post-9/11 world. Johnny (portrayed by Julian Worth), Tunny (Tony Lemus) and Will (David Jarzen) decide to flee the constraints of their hometown for the thrills of city life, but plans are quickly derailed when choices they make quickly estrange the three friends. Also featured in the cast are Frankie Mananzan portraying Whatshername, Emily Carbone as Heather, John McFarlane as St. Jimmy and Emma Kelly as The Extraordinary Girl.

AMERICAN IDIOT, a 2010 Tony Award®-nominated Best Musical and 2010 Grammy Award winner for Best Musical Show Album, features the music of Green Day with the lyrics of its lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong. The book is by Armstrong and Michael Mayer. This energy-fueled rock opera features little dialogue and instead relies on the lyrics from Green Day’s groundbreaking album to execute the story line. The two-time TONY Award-winning hit boldly takes the American musical where it’s never gone before. The musical features the hits “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “21 Guns,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” “Holiday” and the blockbuster title track “American Idiot” from Green Day’s 2004 Grammy Award winning, multi-platinum album. Also included in the score are several songs from Green Day’s 2009 release “21st Century Breakdown,” and an unreleased love song, “When It’s Time.”
The Beyond the Page Theatre Company at West Potomac High School rose to the daunting challenge of taking on Green Day’s American Idiot to great success, crafting a polished production that explored the rage and love of post-9/11, suburban American youth in an impactful way.

"Stunning -- I can’t believe these are highschool kids, handling challenging, provocative, thought-provoking issues with such openness and energy. Inspiring music, sung with heart -- totally engaging and rattling in the best sense. Thank you for a performance I’ll be talking about and remembering for a long time!"

"Not sure mere words can do this show justice. High energy start to finish, amazing vocals, spectacular character portrayals, dynamic execution of Green Day music. This theater troupe just keeps raising the bar with each and every show. Big thanks to Clark for taking on such a challenging show, and congrats to cast and crew for an outstanding opening night. Well done!!”
