Carlyle House Historic Park Educational Offerings Survey

As many schools across the country are turning to virtual learning and families are considering homeschooling their children, Carlyle House, a historic house museum in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, wants to provide educational support for families and teachers. Carlyle House Historic Park’s mission is to preserve and interpret the site, its history and collections, as an educational resource for people of all ages and backgrounds to explore the life and times of the Carlyle family, including enslaved individuals, as well as later owners.

Staff at the museum have come up with many options that families and schools may find useful; however, we wanted to get input from the people who matter most, our community! We’ve included the survey link below, please take a few minutes to let us know your thoughts. Below are descriptions of the options. All options will include a small fee that will help us to continue to offer educational programming.

Virtual school Programs:

Option 1: Videos and lessons plans for our Discovery Through Trash and History in a Haversack are uploaded to an online source (such as Google Drive or Dropbox) and families can use the videos and lesson plans at their own leisure.

Option 2: Similar to option 1 but in addition to the videos and lesson, families schedule a live question and answer session with a staff member.

Option 3: A 1 hour long live video session with a staff member.

Educational Kit:

These kits include instructions for activities that can be done at home, most craft supplies, a book list with multiple reading levels, and an optional assignment that can be handed in to Carlyle House for a special prize. These educational kits have different themes, for example, Women’s Suffrage. Kits would be available for curbside pick-up or can be shipped.
