Grassroots women's group organizes “Flip Virginia Blue!” summit
On the heels of January's historic Women's March on Washington, a group of Virginia women have organized a June 24 summit to send a message

Ashburn, VA June 24, 2017 – On the heels of January’s historic Women’s March on Washington, a group of Virginia women have organized a June 24 summit to send a message to the nation: “We will flip Virginia Blue!”
Bringing together grassroots activists including traditional Democrats and other like-minded men and women, campaign veterans and those entirely new to politics, event organizers will host the one-day “Flip Virginia Blue” summit to lead the charge in shifting the balance of power of the state House to representatives who better appeal to the group’s assortment of followers.
“Women who had never met before, but kept running into each other in the days after the election realized they had one big thing in common – we understood the importance of the upcoming Virginia elections,” said Stair Calhoun, lead Flip Virginia Blue organizer.

The one-day strategy session will feature inspiring speakers, pertinent topics for action, networking opportunities and working information sessions. The day will also highlight the vision of women at the forefront of future Virginia elections, in hopes of attracting more activists to assist their cause.
“Politics is now grassroots and when women connect, amazing things happen,” said Holly Hazzard, an event organizer. “This summit will be the epicenter for the resistance in Virginia; bringing all of the players and advocates together to connect, engage and win votes throughout the state for November.”

Held at the National Conference Center in Leesburg, organizers are prepared to host several hundred attendees in the first post-primary event leading up to November state elections.
“What started with the Women’s March has emerged as a grassroots movement rolling across every town, city and countryside in Virginia,” said Katherine White, an event organizer handling sponsorship and fundraising. “We are a network of men and women who are of action, indivisible, resisters for justice, freedom, and equality for all.”
“Virginia has an important and decisive election this fall. It will have implications across the nation, setting the stage for 2018,” said Calhoun. “Women in Virginia are organized, empowered, and ready to flip the House blue.”
