Gun Goes Off During Theft From Huntington Restaurant

A manager fired the gun into the air when teens stole from the restaurant, police say.

HUNTINGTON, VA—Police say a gun was fired during an attempted theft in Huntington Sunday, Oct. 7.

Around 10:30 p.m., three teenagers were outside a restaurant in the 2200 block of Huntington Avenue when one ran in and stole the tip jar. The teens tried to flee, but the restaurant manager chased them and fired a "warning shot into the air," according to police.

Officers located the teens and charged them with petit larceny. They were released to their parents.

No injuries were reported. Police are consulting with the Commonwealth’s Attorney Office about the discharge of a firearm.
