Little Hunting Creek Cleanup Returns In 2021
Volunteers will clean up the creek, which is impacted by continuous litter for a variety of reasons.

HYBLA VALLEY, VA — State Sen. Scott Surovell and Del. Paul Krizek will hold the annual Little Hunting Creek on Saturday, May 1.
Through the cleanups over the last 11 years, volunteers have removed 200 shopping carts, over 500 bags of trash, over a dozen bikes, numerous liquor and beer cans, over 50 tires, and items like car seats, a .22 caliber-hunting rifle, large metal jungle gym, bathtub, bounce house, and lawn chair. Fairfax County named Little Hunting Creek as Fairfax County's trashiest stream in 2007,and litter dispersal in the stream is attributed to the presence of retail, insufficient storm water management systems, a significant homeless population, and concentration of apartments with trash containment problems.
The cleanup, held in partnership with Friends of Little Hunting Creek, will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on May 1 at several sites. Residents can choose to sign up for the Janna Lee Avenue bridge over Little Hunting Creek, Mount Vernon Plaza near Sherwin Williams Paint Store, or Grackle Court at Audobon Park.
