Malicious Wounding At Route 1 Bus Stop Reclassified As Murder Charge
Fairfax County Police amended the charge to second-degree murder in the fatal assault of a woman at a bus stop.

HYBLA VALLEY, VA — Fairfax County Police have upgraded the charges in the fatal assault of a woman at a Richmond Highway bus stop in Hybla Valley on June 17.
Chante Jones, 33, is now charged with second-degree murder in the death of Michelle Huntley based on a medical examiner's report. Jones was previously charged with aggravated malicious wounding, but police said charges would be amended depending on the results of the medical examiner's autopsy.
After the June 17 assault, Huntley had been found with upper body trauma by a passerby at a bus stop in the 7900 block of Richmond Highway. Huntley was taken to the hospital and died of her injuries on June 26. As reported by WTOP, Huntley was homeless and had been sheltering in the bus stop.

Police had been canvassing the area and reviewing surveillance footage near the bus stop for information in the case. The day after Huntley's death, an officer spotted Jones wearing similar clothing as the night of the assault. Detectives determined Jones was the suspect, and he was charged and held without bond.
