Man Shoots At Couple In Dispute: Police

Police say the suspect shot at two people during an argument outside a Groveton home.

GROVETON, VA—A man has been arrested after allegedly shooting at a couple outside a Groveton home Monday evening.

Around 5:45 p.m., police received a report of shots fired outside a home in the 6900 block of Deer Run Drive.

Police say a woman and man were leaving the home and having a dispute with the suspect. The suspect came outside and pointed a rifle at them, firing several shots. The shots were directed toward the couple and the woods, but the two people were not injured.

Bennie Owens, 70, of the Groveton area was arrested and charged with reckless handling of a firearm and disorderly conduct. He will appear in court May 23.

Police seized the rifle believed to have been used in the incident.
