March For Racial Justice Planned In Hybla Valley

The march comes after an officer was charged for a use-of-force incident against a black civilian in Hybla Valley.

HYBLA VALLEY, VA — A March for Justice to protest police brutality and racial injustice will be held in Hybla Valley Tuesday. Fairfax County Police Chief Ed Roessler Jr., Mount Vernon District Supervisor Dan Storck, Lee District Supervisor Rodney Lusk will be among the participants.

The march, organized by Woodlawn Faith UMC and other faith-based leaders and community leaders, will start at 4 p.m. The approximately 2-mile route starts and ends at Sherwood Regional Library with a segment along Richmond Highway. The event is intended to be nonviolent. Participants are encouraged to bring posters and wear masks and black clothing.

Participants should park at Whitman Middle School. Residents should expect increased traffic in the area starting at 3 p.m. Road closures for the march are possible.

The event comes after an officer was charged for a use of force incident on a black civilian on Fordson Road in Hybla Valley. A body-worn camera video showed Officer Tyler Timberlake, an eight-year veteran of the department, using a stun gun on the civilian, who did not show aggressive behavior. He was charged with three counts of misdemeanor assault and battery. The case is being prosecuted by Fairfax County Commonwealth's Attorney Steve Descano.
