Mount Vernon Estate Slashes Price During Renovations

If you don't mind missing a look inside the mansion, you can get half off admission to George Washington's Mount Vernon for a limited time.

MOUNT VERNON, VA—If you're heading to Mount Vernon for a visit, a major highlight of tours won't be open for two upcoming weeks. George Washington's mansion is closed for preservation work from Jan. 22-Feb. 4.

But that means the admission price will be half off. Online ticket prices are $9 for adults and $6 for kids ages 6-11. Meanwhile the rest of the estate will remain open, which includes the museum, grounds, Washington's tombs and more.

According to WTOP, the work includes repainting the mansion's central passage to make it more true to its 1799 roots and excavation work in the cellar.
