I work for ACIE (American Councils for International Education), which is an international education/exchange organization. ACIE runs exchange programs for J-1 visa students (incoming students) and outbound students, i.e. American students going abroad. These students are high school age. The J-1 visa students are in the U.S. for one whole academic year. They typically arrive in the U.S. around late August. They live with American host families during their stay and will attend school here.

Most of the J-1 visa students have already been placed with host families. However, there are a few who are still without host families. There are still two students from Tajikistan and one from Kazakhstan who need host families. So, I am looking for host families for them.

The students will come with their own spending money and their own health insurance. They are allowed to share a bedroom with the host family's child as long as certain restrictions are met. The restrictions are:

a) both the student and the host family's child must be of the same sex

b) the student and the host family's child must be close in age, i.e. not more than two years apart

c) there are not more than 2 total people occupying the bedroom, i.e. no situations involving multiple occupancy of the room

The host family's responsibilities are:

1) to provide a roof over the student's head and a place for him or her to sleep

2) to provide 3 meals a day (except for school lunches)*

* The students are financially responsible for their school lunch accounts and all other school-related expenses such as field trip fees, school activity fees, school supplies, etc.

Host families can also qualify for a tax break for hosting an exchange student.

If you are interested in hosting one of these exchange students or would like more information, please do not hesitate to contact me. You can message me here.
