Annandale Student Dies After Hit-And-Run Crash In Lincolnia: Police
The pedestrian struck by a vehicle on May 22, a student at Annandale High School, died over the weekend.

LINCOLNIA, VA — A pedestrian who was a student at Annandale High School died about two weeks after a hit-and-run crash in Lincolnia, according to Fairfax County Police. A driver is facing at least one charge.
The crash happened around 10:23 p.m. on May 22 at Little River Turnpike near Oasis Drive, which is just outside Alexandria city limits. Police say the pedestrian was crossing Little River Turnpike inside a crosswalk when a Honda CRV struck her. The driver did not stop after the crash, police say.
The pedestrian was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Daniela Bonilla Betancourt, 18, of Alexandria, died of her injuries this past weekend. The Major Crimes Bureau’s Victim Services is assisting the victim's family.

During the investigation, Abraham Lincoln Samuel, 21, of Springfield, notified public safety communications staff about his involvement in the crash. Samuel was charged with felony hit-and-run on the night of the crash. Additional charges are possible as the investigation will be presented to the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney for review. Police do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
This was Fairfax County's eighth pedestrian fatality so far in 2022. In the same time period in 2021, there were seven pedestrian fatalities.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to support the victim's Memorial Fund. According to the fundraiser, she had been an Annandale High School sophomore.
"As a family, we know that Daniela would want to be buried in her home country," the fundraiser stated. "She came here to the United States with her mother Mibel Betancourt, searching for a better life for her and her family."
Bonilla Betancourt worked at Taco Bamba, which is located not far from where the crash happened. According to the GoFundMe, she had been on her way to the bus when she was struck.
The GoFundMe is intended to help her mother, Mibel, due to financial need. The funds will support Bonilla Betancourt's burial in her home country.
