Police Video Captures Crash With Bicyclist In Hybla Valley

Fairfax County Police say a police cruiser was involved in a crash with a bicyclist at Richmond Highway.

HYBLA VALLEY, VA—Fairfax County Police say an officer's cruiser and bicyclist were involved in a crash Easter Sunday, April 21 in Hybla Valley.

The crash happened around 10:21 a.m. at the Fordson Road and Richmond Highway intersection. The police officer was stopped at a traffic light at the Mount Vernon Plaza shopping center waiting to turn right onto southbound Richmond Highway. The bicyclist crossed the road from the sidewalk and allegedly disregarded a pedestrian signal.

When the bicyclist struck the police cruiser, the officer provided aid and called for an ambulance. The bicyclist went to the hospital with minor injuries.

After further investigation, police believe the officer had the right of way to enter the intersection. The bicyclist was charged with failure to pay full time and attention. Police are conducting an administrative investigation into the crash.
