Senior Centers Reopen To Public In Fairfax County

Full-scale operations are returning to senior centers across Fairfax County, but COVID-19 protocols are in place.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Fairfax County's Neighborhood and Community Services reopened its senior centers to the public Tuesday.

The senior centers, geared toward adults 50 and older, had an extended closure since the spring of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Select senior centers reopened over the summer for limited use, while centers returned to full capacity on Tuesday, Sept. 7. Hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Open locations are: Bailey's Senior Center, 5920 Summers Lane, Falls Church, VA 22041; Herndon Senior Center, 873 Grace Street, Herndon, VA 20170; James Lee Senior Center, 2855 Annandale Road, Falls Church, VA 22041; Kingstowne Center for Active Adults, 6488 Landsdowne Center, Alexandria, VA 22315; Lewinsville Senior Center, 1613 Great Falls Street, McLean, VA 22101; Lincolnia Senior Center, 4710 North Chambliss Street, Alexandria, VA 22312; Little River Glen Senior Center, 4001 Barker Court, Fairfax, VA 22032; Lorton Senior Center, 7722 Gunston Plaza, Lorton, VA 22079; Providence Senior Center, 3001 Vaden Drive, Fairfax VA 22031; South County Senior Center at the Original Mount Vernon High School, 8333 Richmond Highway, Suite 325, Alexandria, VA 22309; Sully Senior Center, 14426 Albemarle Point Place, Chantilly, VA 20151; and Wakefield Senior Center at Audrey Moore RECenter, 8100 Braddock Road, Annandale, VA 22003.

Hollin Hall Senior Center remains closed due to construction with a projected opening date of Sept. 27. Pimmit Hills Senior Center is also closed with a reopening date to be announced.

Centers feature updates to promote social distancing and COVID-19 protocols for members. Centers received a deep cleaning and sanitizing and may feature plexiglass walls, signage on safety procedures and hand sanitizing stations. Temperatures or health checks are not required to visit, but members are asked to stay home when sick. Members will be asked to sign a liability waiver to visit senior centers. Masks are required, but staff cannot ask for vaccination information. Class sizes may be reduced to meet social distancing recommendations from the Fairfax County Health Department.

Other programs from Neighborhood and Community Services — community and teen centers and community technology programs — have already started reopening on June 14.
