Victim Dies In Hybla Valley Shooting, Bystander Detains Suspect

Police say a person shot in Hybla Valley has died from his injuries, and police have the suspect in custody.

HYBLA VALLEY, VA — Fairfax County Police have the suspect of a fatal Hybla Valley shooting in custody thanks to a bystander Tuesday afternoon.

The shooting happened around 1 p.m. in the 7400 block of Vernon Square Drive. Police found a man with multiple upper body gunshot wounds. The victim went to the hospital with life-threatening injuries but died of his injuries.

Fairfax County Police spokesperson Katherine Hayek told reporters a "Good Samaritan" held down the suspect. Police believe the person heard the gunshots and stepped in to detain the suspect until police arrived. The bystander was not injured.

Two handguns were recovered from the scene. Major Crimes Bureau detectives are working to determine how the shooting unfolded.

Police have not released the victim's identity as next-of-kin is notified.
