How to Get the Most out of Your Network on Inauguration Day

Many of the 1 million people expected to descend on D.C. for the Inauguration festivities on January 20 will undoubtedly take to Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, etc. to share the experiences in real time.

That’s a massive demand for smartphone network data coming all from one area. AT&T has invested $15 million and spent two years planning for this and is confident the network will provide a great experience for visitors in D.C., but there is always potential for network congestion. So, AT&T offers these tips to help those planning to be on the National Mall or along the parade route have the best experience with their smartphones:

  • Bring backup: Congestion on the roads and public transportation, not to mention long security lines and the event itself, means you should bring a backup battery or portable charger in case yours gets low.
  • TXT: With all large, high-traffic events, we suggest texting rather than calling since it’s easier for texts to cross the network. In case of emergency, 9-1-1 gets priority on the network.
  • Save, then send: If you are having problems uploading your photos, save, then share them with friends.
  • Use Wifi: AT&T customers have free access to nearly 60 free AT&T WiFi hot spots near the National Mall. Customers who want to share pictures and videos with friends can use these hot spots if they want to get out of the cold.
