VIDEO: Charlottesville, Albemarle Police Discuss Discovery of Human Remains

Charlottesville and Albemarle Police provide update in Hannah Graham case. Filmed Saturday.

Charlottesville City Police and Albemarle County Police contacted Hannah Graham’s parents Saturday after the discovery of human remains on a remote abandoned property, Charlottesville Police Chief Tim Longo said in a news conference Saturday afternoon.

Longo said a team searching about noon Saturday found the remains on the abandoned property along Old Lynchburg Road in southern Albemarle County. Police have canceled a previously scheduled search on Sunday.

Suspect Jesse Matthew is being held in connection with Graham’s disappearance. The UVA sophomore disappeared five weeks ago, on Sept. 13. She was last seen on surveillance video in the company of Matthew.

The remains found Saturday have been sent to the state Medical Examiner’s Office.

Matthew is scheduled to go to court in December. Forensic evidence reportedly links Matthew to student Morgan Harrington’s 2009 murder and disappearance. Her remains were found in early 2010 about 5 miles from where today’s remains were found. He is also linked to a sex assault nine years ago in Fairfax City. The suspect ran from the scene and the victim survived; she was able to give authorities a description of her attacker.
