Virginia Lodge Motel Barricade Suspect Strikes Again: Police

Police believe a man who escaped from a barricade is responsible for recent vehicle break-ins and car thefts.

BELLE HAVEN, VA—New calls to police from Belle Haven area residents suggest the Virginia Lodge Motel barricade suspect has since committed more crimes.

Alton Thodos, 32, who escaped from a barricaded motel room Saturday, is the suspect in car break-ins reported Wednesday, Oct. 3. Around 10 a.m. Wednesday, Fairfax County Police received a report of a man rummaging through several cars around Belle Haven Road and Radcliff Lane in Belle Haven. The car owners reported missing loose change and small items.

The suspect, who matched Thodos’s description, left the area in a 2012 Subaru Outback. The car had been reported stolen from Arlington County.

Another resident reported a man believed to be Thodos drive away in a stolen 2018 Nissan Rogue around 2 p.m. in the 3100 block of Burgundy Road in Rose Hill. Thodos allegedly snuck into the home while the resident was inside and stole the car keys.

Around 3:45 p.m., officers were searching for the stolen Arlington vehicle when they recovered a 2007 Nissan Titan at Heritage Hill Court and Lawson’s Hill Court in Rose Hill. They believe Thodos stole the car from Washington, DC.

On Saturday, Sept. 29, police went to the Virginia Lodge Motel to serve Thodos with grand larceny, credit card theft, credit card fraud and a probation violation warrants. He made threats against himself when police tried to enter the room, resulting in the standoff.

By the time police got in, Thodos escaped from the ceiling and got out in another part of the building. Surveillance footage confirmed his escape.

Police say Thodos is considered dangerous. He is described as 6 foot 1, 175 pounds, with a beard and wearing a red hat and a white shirt. Anyone who sees him or has information should call Fairfax County Police at 703-691-2131 or submit a tip online through Crime Solvers.
