What Readers Want In Vacant Restaurant Space In Hybla Valley

HYBLA VALLEY, VA — Anyone who frequents the Mount Vernon Plaza shopping center may notice the former Ruby Tuesday space remains vacant. We asked readers what they'd want to see, and they responded with plenty of suggestions.

Ruby Tuesday closed in 2019, as reported by Covering the Corridor. Since then, the space has been vacant despite recent openings in the shopping center such as Old Navy and Skrimp Shack.

Since the space is best suited for a restaurant, we asked readers on Greater Alexandria and Mount Vernon Patch which restaurant they'd like to take over the space. Some readers named specific restaurants, while others indicated cuisines they want.

The most popular response was Chick-fil-A. A few people expressed concerns about traffic flow, and one person noted the Backlick Road location in Springfield is "too far and impossible to get in and out" of. A Chick-fil-A with a drive-thru was recently approved by the Board of Supervisors for Kingstowne Towne Center. Supervisors made a point to discuss plans for traffic flow due to the backup concerns at the Backlick Road location.

Other responses mentioned multiple times were Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Cheesecake Factory, Texas Roadhouse, Hooters, California Pizza Kitchen, sweetgreen, Matchbox, Carrabba's Italian Grill, the return of Ruby Tuesday, a brewery, Italian food, Greek food, and Mediterranean food.
