📰 News we're reading

1. AAA warns drivers of increased deer presence on roadways (whsv.com) — Drivers in Harrisonburg are being urged to watch for deer on local roads this October and November, when most deer-related crashes occur in Virginia. AAA says mating season and low sun during morning and evening commutes make deer harder to see, and warns that collisions can be costly, averaging about $6,000 in repairs that are typically only covered under comprehensive insurance.

2. Meet our new foundation board members (morganton.com) — A new Blue Ridge Community College Educational Foundation board member, Troy Suter, leads LD&B Insurance and Financial Services in Harrisonburg and is deeply involved with local nonprofits like the Boys & Girls Club and AVA Care of Harrisonburg. Alongside fellow appointees from Augusta County and Staunton, he'll help guide the foundation's work supporting students and regional workforce needs.

3. Low River Flow Keeps Front Royal Under Water Restrictions (thewinchestergazette.com) — Harrisonburg remains under a regional drought warning as low streamflows on the South Fork Shenandoah push nearby Front Royal into mandatory water restrictions. While Harrisonburg hasn't imposed its own new rules yet, state officials urge residents to conserve by cutting nonessential water use, fixing leaks, and watching for updated guidance as fall rainfall forecasts remain uncertain.

4. No. 18 Generals Cruise Past Eastern Mennonite, 7-0, for Third ODAC Win (generalssports.com) — Field hockey fans in Harrisonburg saw Eastern Mennonite University fall 7–0 at home to nationally ranked Washington and Lee, which dominated shots and penalty corners at EMU's turf field. The Royals failed to register a single shot, while W&L spread its scoring across six players and stayed unbeaten in ODAC play with its second conference shutout.
