Bathtime at Dogtopia

Local pooches and their people gather for a charity dog wash

More than 100 dogs and their people came out to Dogtopia's Charity Dog Wash on Sunday.

Dogs that came received a wash, a towel dry, fragrance spritz and a bandana. Washes were done for a donation of $15, which went to Maryland-based Hero Dogs. The nonprofit exists purely to train and place service dogs with injured and disabled military veterans that have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Those who attended got to enjoy food from Jimmy's Old Town Tavern and Tropical Smoothie, and pups were able to enjoy goodies from Pink Piggy Sweets. Dogtopia staff held a bake sale as well.

All money collected from the bake sale and dog wash will go to Hero Dogs, and 10 percent of the proceeds collected by Jimmy's and Tropical Smoothie will go to the organization as well. Herndon Dogtopia Manager Laura Cruz said they were excited to see how generous their supporters were in helping raise money for Hero Dogs.

Attendees waiting for a dog wash were able to chat with a panel of pet professionals and get questions answered. Panelists included staff from herndon Animal Medical Center, Opportunity Barks Animal Behavior and Training, and Bark N’ Bubbles.
