Herndon's Friendly Computers Celebrates Five Years
Locally owned computer service and repair shop connects with community
Herndon’s Friendly Computers began it's fifth anniversary celebration on Friday with cupcakes and a raffle.
The business is owned by Herndon residents Elysa and Igor Birman, who wanted to open a business in the town they live in so they could be close to their community, home and children.
Elysa Birman said her husband has been building computers since he was a teen and is a programmer, and with her experience in project management, they wanted to open their own business. The business started out of their home before moving to its current location at Sunset Business Park off of Spring Street in 2007, she said.

Having a business in the Herndon community has been positive for Friendly Computers, because of the support from other local businesses, Elysa Birman said.
She said she has been working with organizations such as the Dulles Regional Chamber of Commerce and Women’s Networking Luncheon since opening their business, and many local businesses work to promote each other.

Friendly Computers often takes part in supporting the community as well, by working with local schools, Elysa Birman said. “I think it’s fun to live in the community your business is in,” she said.
The Herndon Friendly Computers won franchise of the year last year. The shop provides computer service and repair, upgrades, custom systems and more. Elysa Birman said the shop carries some computer equipment and promotes the usage of back-up drives.
She said some unique things offered include laptop repair and having phone lines that connect to their cell phones so they can help customers quicker and more efficiently.
