Woman Found Dead Inside Leesburg House After House Fire

A woman was found dead inside a home Sunday night when firefighters responded to a house fire.

LEESBURG, VA – A woman was found dead inside a home Sunday night when firefighters responded to a house fire.

Just before 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, emergency crews responded to house fire in the 300 block of Harrison Street, SE. Emergency calls to dispatch reported the house was on fire and someone may have been trapped inside.

When firefighters arrived, they reported visible smoke from the back of the two-story townhouse. They entered the building and searched for residents. A small fire was located on the first floor, along with a dead woman, officials said.

The Fire Marshal's Office determined the fire was caused by improper disposal of smoking materials, causing an estimated $184,800 in damages.

The victim's identification and cause of death will be released following an investigation.
