Battlefield High School Robotics Starts New Year with Community Outreach at Haymarket Days
FRC Team 1885 Begins the Academic Year Sharing Their Love of STEM with the Community in Haymarket, Virginia
Returning from the 2016 FIRST Championship with the prestigious Industrial Design Award sponsored by General Motors, Battlefield High School FRC Team 1885 commenced their 2016 - 2017 season with a demonstration of robotics and STEM education at Haymarket Days. The Industrial Design Award acknowledges the team with the best form and function in their robot design to address the challenges of the annual FRC game.
Upcoming community outreach events for Battlefield High School FRC Team 1885 includes the ILITE Robotics Off-season Competition (IROC) on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Battlefield High School. At IROC, FRC Teams from DC, Maryland and Virginia will compete in the fast-paced and exciting 2016 medieval themed robotics game of Stronghold. On Saturday, December 10, 2016, ILITE Robotics will host the Northern Virginia FTC Regional competition for Velocity Vortex. The HayMaker STEM Expo returns on Saturday, January 28, 2017. Attended by more than 1800 local residents in 2016, the HayMaker STEM Expo provides the opportunity for educational hands-on STEM based activities and demonstrations.
Established in 2005 with thirty-two students, ILITE FRC Team 1885 is today one of the largest robotics programs in the Mid-Atlantic region. ILITE FRC Team 1885 based at Battlefield High School in Prince William County, Virginia is coached by Professor Gail Drake. ILITE stands for Inspiring Leaders in Technology and Engineering. Since winning Rookie All Star in 2006 at the First Championship, ILITE FRC Team 1885 has won numerous awards including five regional Chairman's Awards and four regional Engineering Inspiration Awards. ILITE FRC Team 1885 engages in extensive outreach to share their love of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) by holding STEM summer camps, hosting an annual STEM Expo, advocating for STEM education with national politicians and supporting robotics education at local elementary schools as well as schools in Haiti and Malaysia.
