NOKESVILLE, VA — A student jumped off the roof of Brentsville District High School on Thursday morning, according to a report from InsideNoVA. Several students witnessed the incident.

The student was injured and an ambulance took him to the hospital, school officials said in a letter to families. The school did not provide any information about the extent of the student's injuries, their name, gender, or grade level.

"We have been in contact with the student’s family and will be providing support," Brentsville principal Katherine Meints wrote in the letter. "For student privacy, we will not be sharing further information."

Meints did not provide any information about how the student got to the roof, or what events led to the incident.

"Students are understandably upset and have questions and concerns," Meints said. "Be assured we have been supporting those students today, and we are available to you and your students as needed.  We have counseling teams on site at the school."

Meints also asked that parents talk to their children and discourage them from sharing photos or rumors about the event online.
